Of course it's a different strand, H3N2v, as opposed to the H1N1. 12 people have already been infected while 17,000 people died in the outbreak of H1N1. So far all the break outs have come in contact with farm animals but they say their is potential for human to human transfer. There's all sort of good news in this article.
The 12 people with the new swine flu strain live in Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Officials for the Centers for Disease Control say the sample size of H3N2 infections is too small to know whether it will pose a threat to the population at large. "It's a very small sample and it's geographically spread, which makes it more difficult to get a handle on it," www.usnews.com/news/articles/2012/01/11/...new-swine-flu-strain |

Says that guy, Dr. Miman, predicted the last out break and they didn't listen to him then either.
I got the link to the California Department of Public Health announcement about the recent outbreaks... peds.stanford.edu/chiefsblog/2011/12/30/...30%20CDPH%20H3N2.pdf The above release says all recent H2N3 swine flu outbreaks have occurred in children with the median age of 3. Also all children had been in contact with swine recently. Guess that means...keep your children away from pigs. |
